A CU20 endorsement on your driver’s licence if you are caught causing danger using an unsuitable vehicle or driving a vehicle with parts in a dangerous condition. If you are unfortunate enough to acquire this endorsement, you will find it hard to get decent car insurance. Licences carrying this endorsement represent an increased risk in the eyes of insurance companies. Some car insurance companies may even refuse to issue quotes for drivers with a CU20 endorsement.

How You Got A CU20 Conviction Code

A CU20 endorsement is given if you are caught causing or likely to cause danger by reason of use of unsuitable vehicle or using a vehicle with parts or accessories (excluding brakes, steering or tyres) in a dangerous condition. This can vary from attempting to drive a vehicle you built in your shed, like a bicycle powered by fireworks, to using banned or dangerous modifications, or simply driving with broken headlights.

Penalties For Causing Danger With An Unsuitable Vehicle

If convicted, your CU20 endorsement will remain on your licence for 4 years from the date of the offence. You will also receive 3 points on your licence. If you acquire more than 12 points on your licence within 3 years, you will also receive a driving ban. For any offence that offers penalty points, the court has a discretionary power to order the licence holder to be disqualified, fined and imprisoned.

CU20 Car Insurance

With a CU20 conviction, you’re looking at 4 years of struggling to find a good rate on car insurance. Any quote for car insurance you do get is likely to be high, thanks to the CU20 endorsement. Insurers consider drivers with licences carrying CU20 convictions a higher risk than drivers with a clean licence and increase premiums. However, our specialist brokers are happy to help with your search by finding the best insurance policy for the best possible price.

At Keith Michaels we know you’re a person, not a policy number. We can provide a range of car insurance quotes that are tailored to your personal situation, to keep your premium as representative as possible and back on the road as soon as possible.

It is essential that you disclose any and all convictions you have when shopping for car insurance. Failure to disclose is a breach of the law and will invalidate your insurance. If you are stopped by the police, you will receive a driving ban. For more handy information for CU20 convicted drivers, click here.
