We all know Land Rover – the iconic British brand of four-wheel drive vehicles that were originally boxy in appearance and primarily built for utilitarian use. The first model was launched in 1948 by the Rover Company having been designed by Maurice Wilks on his farm in Anglesey.
Over time, Land Rover has grown into its own brand, increasing the range of four-wheel drive, off-road capable vehicles into premium luxury sport utility vehicles. The change really started with the “upmarket” Range Rover launched in 1970, and thereafter introductions of the Discovery, Freelander, Defender (refresh), Evoque, Sport and Velar models. The second generation of the well-loved Defenders will be launched in 2020 both in short or long wheelbase.
Land Rover is currently owned by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), which has been owned by India’s Tata Motors since 2008. Vehicles are built in Brazil, China, India, Slovakia and the UK.
