It has been said since the release of the McLaren MP4-12C, despite what a brilliant piece of engineering it is, it just doesn’t have the power to be number one. McLaren’s answer was to bring out a newer, rawer model that is set to blow people away, the 12C GT Can-Am Edition.
With the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 stripping off it’s FIA-mandated restrictors, the McLaren 12C GT Can-Am Edition can potentially reach a BHP of 630 which when compared to the previous 592hp of the 12C is really quite impressive. Not only is there the increase in power, it looks as though McLaren have managed to boost down force of around the 30% mark in order to get the car sticking through the corners. Quite an increase in down force totally adds more to this car than even we could have expected from McLaren, but then they did perfect the cars aerodynamics using F1 technology and simulations, add to that they have a new unique engine calibration and an optimized cooling system that keeps everything running with McLaren’s usual high standards you really do have a masterpiece on your hands.
Unfortunately, there is only going to be 30 of these made and sold so getting hold of one is going to pretty difficult, and of course the price tag is going to cause quote a fright with most McLaren fans as initial pricing suggests around the £375,000 mark. Yes this is more than twice the value of the previous 12C model, but with this car you are not just buying something to pop around town in, it’s a machine to tear around a track in and feel every ounce of driving ability pour out of you as you drive one of the most exclusive cars on the planet. Of course, this car will be one that your everyday gentleman won’t be able to just go out and buy, but as a pipe dream it really is something special and to the lucky 30 who get their hands on one we really do hope you treasure every turn when this car is blitzing every track you venture to.
