Return Of The UK Subaru Impreza WRX STI

It would appear that the Detroit motor show of 2014 is pulling out pleasure after pleasure for motor enthusiasts and they haven’t stopped yet. The Subaru Impreza WRX STI is making a return to the UK market! OK so it hasn’t officially been unveiled as a WRX STI, but the stylings are somewhat recognizable with the huge rear wing and bonnet scoop helping us reminisce of times gone by.

So the latest Subaru Impreza looks like what you’d expect it to, and it seems we will be getting the performance to match. A 2.5-litre flat-four turbo, 305hp and 290lb ft that is set in motion with a six speed manual gearbox with Subaru’s latest Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and torque vectoring. There is also said to be a race spec Impreza WRX STI that will be competing at the Nurburgring 24 Hours in June, so you can imagine that getting more out of your own won’t take much at all. Subaru are also promising that the latest Impreza will be a much more compliant ride with meticulously re-tuned’ springs and dampers helping to accompany a more responsive drive, that has been tested at the previously mentioned Nurbugring.

Worried about spending £30k on a Subaru Impreza WRX STI though? It’s a problem that many drivers have had in the past which has lead to Subaru losing out on potential buyers to the likes of BMW. This is an issue that Subaru have addressed this time around and we have to say that it makes a hell of a lot of sense when you think how competitive this market will be this year. Soft touch materials along with new trim and dials aim to provide ‘both a suitably sporty feel and more upmarket ambience’. All very promising and certainly an improvement on previous models, but unfortunately the rest of Europe have fine tuned their interiors over the years and we feel that Subaru may still just lack on this particular issue. The fact still remains however, that this is a Subaru Impreza WRX STI. They have always been exciting and the new version is available for £4,000 less than the previous model at a value of £28,995 and that is putting it right in the mix of a very exciting market. It will be up against the likes of the New Seat Leon, the Megane 265 and what is looking to be it’s closest competition the new Audi S3. Come May we will find out just how impressive the latest Impreza WRX STI will be and to say we are excited is an understatement.
