With a 476 BHP 5.4 litre V8 engine, the SL55 AMG was the most powerful car produced by Mercedes up to 2002. It was even alleged that the car could top 200 mph if unrestricted. Power was soon up to 500 and then 517 BHP by 2006 all thanks to supercharger tweaks.
If this wasn’t enough for you, in 2008 the 6.2 litre engine was fitted into what became the SL63 AMG, although some said the new styling was a departure from the old.
Even so, it is now possible to pick up an early car for £16,000! Quite incredible given the car that you get. Mercedes SL55 AMG insurance has therefore also come down to a level some would consider more acceptable.
