McLaren MP4-12C Spider

Hard on the heels of various updates to the MP4, McLaren have just announced the introduction of their Spider version, and what a stunner it is too. Like the Ferrari 458 Spider, the McLaren uses the same type of folding hard-top roof which folds away in just 17 seconds.

The car comes with the uprated engine which has now been used as standard in the coupe version, ie. 625 bhp from the glorious turbo V8 3.8 litre unit. What is also impressive is the fact that the car only comes in at 40kgs more than the standard car due to the extensive use of composite materials. This means that the Spider version will still accelerate to 60 in 3 seconds, to 100 in 9, and hit a top speed of 207 mph. These are the sort of figures associated with the big brother McLaren F1 in a car for the ‘mass’ market. It just goes to show how the modern supercar has moved on in recent years.

The feedback we have received from clients is that this car is just about as good as it gets – everyday usability in a supercar that can be used every day. Almost more like a Porsche 911 Turbo than its big competitor, the Ferrari 458. For those who want one then the wait will be until at least November, and hopefully these pictures show the car at its best, but for a little video appetiser:

If you are looking for McLaren MP4 Insurance, whether Coupe or Spider, then we have specialist performance car insurance underwriters who are very happy to cover these cars for the right clients. Experience of driving similar cars is vital but you may be surprised by the premiums that can be obtained.
