For years the Porsche brand has been one of the top manufacturers in world motoring, and in order to keep themselves up there with the greats Porsche must continue to produce great cars that offer the very best in looks and performance. Feeling that current competition was hotting up, Porsche have revealed the Cayenne S Diesel to keep people talking after the release of the lesser model, the V6 3.0litre Cayenne. And if it was talking that they wanted, it is talking that they will get. With a new 4.2litre twin-turbo V8 diesel engine running things in the newer ‘S’ version of the Cayenne, people will certainly be excited for the future as this car promises to perform right up there with the top dogs.
Pushing out 382hp and 627lb ft the Porsche Cayenne S Diesel is already one up on horsepower and 81lb ft up on the nearest of competition that the tri-turbo BMW X5 and X6 could muster up, they are off to a good start. With 0-62mph reached in 5.7 seconds the Cayenne S Diesel will have every bit of your concentration, add to that the fact you get a fairly good 34mpg out of the tank you can’t be upset with the figures. As with all the Porsche ‘S’ upgrades, the visual aspects are cool and simple with added ‘S’ badges, black intake grilles and silver brake calipers, which although not massively different add just a touch of excellence to the already excellent Porsche brand.
Due for release in January of 2013, the Porsche Cayenne S Diesel will be at a fairly priced £58,243. Compare that to the prices of the BMW equivalent and you make a small saving of just under £2000 you can’t really grumble too much, especially as you get a bit more out of the Porsche.
