An MS20 endorsement on your license will mean that you’ll need insurance from a specialist broker. Having points on your license for will cause your insurance to be more expensive. Insurers consider you an increased risk and will up premiums accordingly. But, a specialist broker like Keith Michaels can help you get a more competitive deal.
How You Got A MS20 Conviction Code
An MS20 endorsement is attached to an unlawful pillion riding offence. A ‘pillion’ is the seat behind the driver’s seat of a motorbike. You are only allowed to carry a passenger on a motorcycle on a pillion seat securely fitted behind the rider. The minimum requirement is that the pillion can sit astride the seat and put their feet on the footrests. If the pillion is too short/small to achieve this or the motorcycle is not fitted for a pillion then an offence is committed.
Penalties For Unlawful Pillion Riding
It is normally the rider who is prosecuted, although it is possible that the pillion can be prosecuted as though they committed the offence.
If convicted, your MS20 endorsement remains on your driver’s licence for 4 years from the date of the offence. In addition, you will receive 3 points on your driver’s license. If you acquire 12 or more points within 3 years, you will be banned from driving.

MS20 Bike Insurance
Being unlawful pillion riding is sometimes the result of an innocent mistake. At Keith Michaels we understand this and work tirelessly to get you the best deal on your car insurance. Mistakes happen, we know this and we treat you like a person, not a policy number.
Failure to disclose any conviction is a breach of the law and will invalidate your insurance. Plus, if you are stopped by the police, you will receive a driving ban. This will make finding insurers willing to cover you in the future extremely difficult.
