With a DR31 endorsement on your license, you need specialist insurance. Thanks to this drink-driving conviction code, you will find it harder to get back on the road with proper insurance. You will likely find that getting a quote is tough and if you get one, you’ll be paying more than you might think. Insurers consider you an increased risk and will up premiums accordingly.

How You Got A DR31 Conviction Code

You will receive a DR31 conviction if you have refused to give permission for analysis of a specimen that was taken without your consent due to incapacity after driving or attempting to drive. This incapacity might be because of drink or drugs, or due to injuries incurred during an accident while driving.

Penalties For Refusing To Authorise An Analysis

If convicted of failing to supply a specimen, your DR31 endorsement remains on your driver’s licence for 11 years from the date of conviction. You receive 3-11 points on your licence depending on the circumstances of the offence. If you acquire more than 12 points on your licence within 3 years, you will be banned from driving.

DR31 Car Insurance

It is essential that you disclose any and all convictions you have when shopping for car insurance. Failure to disclose is a breach of the law and will invalidate your insurance. Plus, if you are stopped by the police, you will receive a driving ban. This will make finding insurers willing to cover you in the future extremely difficult.

Motor offences that are classed as drink or drug related are often the result of innocent mistakes. Unfortunately, drivers with drink driving endorsements on their licence are faced with insurance premiums that are significantly higher than drivers with clean licences. We offer special drink driver car insurance policies so you can save up to 50% on your insurance premium.
