The Porsche Panamera is a 4 door, front engined, rear wheeled drive car, which like the Cayenne, is a departure from the traditional line of cars produced by Porsche over the years. This may have upset the purists but the car has been designed to broaden the traditional customer base that Porsche have had over the years. We still cover the Panamera under our traditional Porsche insurance schemes rather than saloon car ones.
The Panamera has been placed in the market to compete with cars such as the Maserati Granturismo and Aston Martin Rapide, although Porsche would like to think it also takes on the BMW 7 series, Audi A8 and Mercedes S Class.
Porsche Panamera S
The original Panamera debuted in 2009 alongside the Turbo version. On offer were a 4.8 litre V8 engine which produced either 400 or 500bhp which was enough to make this car have a supercar feel. For those who have travelled in the Turbo version there is not much like it on the road! The V8 range now comprises the S, GTS, Turbo and Turbo S models. Each has its place in the range with power now up to 550bhp available. The Panamera sits very neatly between a large executive car and a sports coupe and has the power and handling plus the comfort one would expect from this upmarket prestige car.
Porsche Panamera
The ‘base’ model of the series has been built around 3 different engine versions, namely the V6 petrol, V6 diesel and V6 Hybrid. Varying between 3.0 and 3.6 litres, these models have been aimed at the luxury car market headed by the likes of Mercedes and BMW and were introduced by Porsche in 2011. For such a large car, fuel consumption on these models (especially the diesel) are acceptable in this market sector, and we see the hybrid version as being one for the future.
