The New Mitsubishi Evo Is Going Electric

The next Mitsubishi Evo XI is set to ditch turbo-charging for electric power boost, which means the hot Lancer will be moved even further away from its rallying roots.

Due in 2013, the Mitsubishi Evo XI will be a hybrid rather than 100 per cent electric. While being provided with the power boost currently supplied by turbo-charging, the electric motor should be more fuel-efficient and deliver a smoother, more immediate power.

The lithium ion battery-fed electric motor in the Mitsubishi Evo XI will drive the front wheels, while the 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine will drive the rears. It will still be treated as a four-wheel drive, and Mitsubishi is aiming to do 0-60mph in 4.5secs.
